HALEY
10/13/98 - 2/14/19
Born on October 13th, 1998. Passed away at the young age of 20 on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2019.
On Wednesday, February 13th, Haley came home from work just before midnight, ate her dinner that her mother had made for her earlier. She folded her laundry as she watched an episode of one of her new shows on Netflix and texted her boyfriend goodnight around 2:45 AM. Around 3:15 AM, she went to her parents' room, opened the door and said: “I can’t feel my arms.” She then collapsed. Her parents rushed to her assistance immediately and called 911 while trying to help her. Paramedics came and put her in an ambulance, within minutes she lost her heartbeat as they rushed her to the hospital. After 45 minutes of resuscitation, she was gone.

In just a little over an hour, a beautiful person went from her daily routine to experiencing everyone’s worst nightmare. A promising life had gone way too soon. Her parents were left shattered and confused. Her little brother suddenly left an only child; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and so many more family members and friends left torn and shocked. Her boyfriend, who worshipped the ground she walked on, was left to try to figure out how he’s going to go on without the love of his life. An entire community was devastated to hear the news of the sudden tragic loss of such a great human being.
A whole life was gone. College graduation, marriage, new house, children, vacations, and many new memories, were all gone in the blink of an eye.
Her cause of death was HHT, Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (also known as Osler-Weber-Rendu Disease). A hereditary vascular disease which ruptured and caused her lungs to flood with blood. It forced her heart to pump extra hard with nothing pumping in or out.

This tragedy came as a complete shock to everyone. There are signs and symptoms to this disease, but in Haley’s case, there were none. As far as everyone knew, she was a healthy, physically fit 20-year-old woman.
We share this tragic story to try to get the message through that this can happen to anyone at any given moment. Please remember our story and learn from it. Educate yourself on this disease and get checked. You really never know what’s going on inside of you.

Haley was a beautiful person, inside and out. She went to school and worked at night. She was a hard worker who loved life. When she set a goal, she didn’t stop until she achieved it. She was a great kid who never got into any trouble. She was smart, friendly, funny, kind, good-hearted and well rounded. She was respectful and caring. She was a sweetheart with a very promising future ahead of her. She excelled at everything in life. She was an amazing big sister to her little brother, John, a loyal friend to many, devoted girlfriend to her boyfriend of two years, Austin, the best daughter any parent could ever wish for. In the words of her parents, “She was the easiest child to raise, always listened, never got into trouble, she was the best, always so loving and smiling that beautiful smile.” She truly was someone that many people would aspire to be like. The world needs more people like Haley.
Our goal now is to raise awareness of this disease; to try to save lives through our experience, to use Haley’s life and her story to help impact as many people as we can in the most positive way possible.
Life is short. Love one another and enjoy it.
